Biennial Election of Bangladesh Tanners Association (BTA) : 2019-2020

In order to conduct an efficient, free and fair election of Bangladesh Tanners Association (BTA): 2019-2020, A Election Board and A Election Appeal Board has been constituted in accordance with the findings and conclusions of the executive committee meeting held on November-04.

Election Board  :

Election Appeal Board :

  1. Mr. Tarikul Islam Khan     – Chairman

Seminar on “Proper Management of Relocated Tannery Industrial Estate and Sustainable Development”

A Seminar on “Proper Management of Relocated Tannery Industrial Estate and Sustainable Development” was jointly organized by Bangladesh Tanners Association (BTA) & Leather Sector Business Promotion Council (LSBPC), Ministry of Commerce, on 21st January, 2018 at 10:00AM at Emmanuelle’s Convention Center (Shimanto Square, 5th floor), Road No-02, Dhanmondi, Dhaka.

The Seminar was chaired by Mr. Shaheen Ahamed, Chairman, Bangladesh Tanners Association (BTA).

Mr. Mohammad Ziaul Hoque, Project Director, (TIED) BSCIC, attended the seminar as a guest. General Secretary of BTA, Mr Md. Sakawat Ullah was present on the occasion. Dr. M. Abu Eusuf, Professor & Chairman, Department of Development Studies, University of Dhaka and Dr. Md. Delwar Hossain, Professor, Dept of Civil Engg. BUET were present as resource persons. Along with others, Mr. Mustak Hassan Md Iftekhar (Additional Secretary), Chairman, BSCIC was also present as special guest.

Tannery owners and others were also present as participants.

New Executive Committee of BTA took over for the Year (2017-18)

A new Executive Committee of Bangladesh Tanners Association (BTA) has been elected for the year (2017-18) on 25 February, 2017.

New Executive Committee (2017-18) took-over the charges on 12 March, 2017.

Newly Elected Executive Committee was presented bouquet by the Association Secretary Mr. Mohammad Nurul Islam. He assured the newly elected Executive Committee to assist during their tenure.

Press Conference on Product of the year-2017

      A Press Conference was held on 26 February, 2017 at Westin Hotel & Resorts, in Dhaka Gulshan Avenue to share perspective and the programme of Product of the Year-2017.

     Hon’ble Minister Mr. Tofail Ahmed, MP; Ministry of Commerce, was attend there as Chief Guest on the conference. He said Country’s Leather and Leather Products would register US$ 5 billion export earnings by 2021. Mr. Hedayetullah Al Mamoon, ndc, Senior Secretary; Ministry of Commerce presided over the programme. Mr. Mikail Shipar, Secretary; Ministry of Labour and Employment. Mr Shubhashish Bose, Secretary in Charge; Ministry of Textiles & Jute. PARAG, Additional Secretary; Ministry of Industries. Mr. Shaheen Ahamed, Chairman; Bangladesh Tanners Association (BTA). Md. Saiful Islam, President, Leathergoods & Footwear Manufacturers & Exporters Association of Bangladesh (LFMEAB) and Mr. Mohiuddin Ahmmed Mahin Chairman; Bangladesh Finished Leather, Leathergoods & Footwear Exporters Association (BFLLFEA), was present in the Conference.

Training on Social Compliance

            There were two Training (Day-long) for four days, title “Business Social Initiative (BSCI)” held on 25 February, 2017 (1 day training) and title “Social Compliance” held on 26-28 February, 2017 (3 days training). Those Training were organized by GIZ in Cooperation with BTA at Bangladesh Institute of management (BIM).

             Hon’ble Chairman of BTA Mr. Md Shaheen Ahamed was attend on the final and last Day of Training on 28 February, as the Chief guest for issue and distribute the Certificates to the trainees. Mr. Md. Aminul Hasan (Helal), Senior Social Compliance Advisor of GIZ was attend there as special guest.

             The Secretary Mr. Mohammad Nurul Islam of Bangladesh Tanners Association (BTA) was attend there on 25 February (first Day) as the Chief Guest for opening the Training season.

              A team of four (4) Executive Committee Member headed by the Treasurer Mr Md Mizanur Rahman from Bangladesh Tanners Association (BTA) visited the Training.

Visit by the European Union (EU) Delegation to the Savar Tannery Estates.

A Delegation of the European Union (EU) headed by Mr. Konstantinos Vardakis, Minister Counselor visited Savar Tannery Estate on 16 February, 2017. The Delegation was received by the representative of the Bangladesh Tanners Association. Mr Sanjoy Kumar Thakur (Consultant, BTA) and Officials of BSCIC. The delegation went round the Appex Tannery, Fancy Leather Enterprise and Samota Leather Complex Ltd. Mr. Shamsul Huda (Hudu) welcome the delegation at his Fancy Leather Enterprise while visiting his industry.

 Later the delegation went round the CETP areas were the delegation was briefed by the Project Director.

Product of the year

The Honorable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurates the 22nd Dhaka International Trade Fair (DITF) on 1st January, 2017. On the inauguration Prime Minister Announced the ‘Leather‘ as “Product of the Year’ of 2017. The Fair was organized jointly by The Ministry of Commerce and Bangladesh Export Promotion Bureau, (BEPB).

The Prime Minister said, Leather export has been increased by about 71 times over the last four decades and Bangladesh produces leather goods for top global brands. “The government wants to boost up the rising leather sector to explore its all potentials, and “Exporters should not run after few countries for GSP facilities. Better you should find markets in another place.” She asked all concerned to take necessary steps to provide necessary cooperation and incentives to boost the leather sector. Prime Minister rebuke the business persons and exporters to remain careful about the changing global trade regime, She said, WTO rules are making the global trade more liberal. “So, Bangladeshi products should maintain global standard to sustain in the world market,”

Sheikh Hasina (PM) distributed 28 gold, 22 silver and 15 bronze medals among the exporters for their success in export during the year 2013-2014, as the National Export Trophy-2013-2014 on the inaugural function of DITF-2017.

Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed, Chairman of Parliamentary Standing Committee on Ministry of Commerce and Chief Whip of the Opposition Party in parliament Tajul Islam Chowdhury attended the function as special guests. Senior Secretary of Ministry of Commerce Hedayet Ullah Al Mamun, President of Federation of Bangladesh Chambers and Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) Abdul Matlub Ahmed spoke, among others, on the occasion while Vice Chairman of Mafruha Sultana gave welcome address. Cabinet members, senior government officials, diplomats, business leaders and exporters and participant from home and abroad were present.

President of Association of German Footwear and Leather Goods Industry (HDS/L) visited the new tannery Estate in Savar.

Mr. Manfred Junkert, The President of Federal Association of German Footwear and Leather Goods Industry (HDS/L), visited the new Tannery Estate in Savar on 3rd December, 2016. The visit was organized by Bangladesh Tanners Association (BTA). Mr. Shaheen Ahamed, Chairman, BTA was present, He informed the Delegates about the present and future action to be taken by the Owners of tannery for build up export of Leather and Leather goods. Among others, Mr. Md. Abdul Quyyum, Project Director of Tannery Estate, Savar was also present.

World Bank Mission visited the new Tannery Estate in Savar

The World Bank Mission headed by Mr Michael Engman, Senior Economist, visited Savar new Tannery Estate on 02 December, 2016. The visit was organized by Bangladesh Tanners Association (BTA). The World Bank Mission visits the newly established Tannery and Central Effluent Treatment Plant (CETP). The mission satisfied the activities in the new tannery premises in Savar.

Representative of Bangladesh Tanners Association and BSCIC were accompanied the mission.
