Bangladesh Tanners Association (BTA), SGS Bangladesh Limited and the Asia Foundation Bangladesh jointly organized ISO 45001:2018 OHSMS Assessment Closure & Project closing ceremony on Sunday, April 16, 2023, at 3.00 PM at A. S. Mahmud Hall, The Daily Star, 64-65, Kazi Nazrul Islam Avenue, Dhaka-1215.
The objective of this program was to celebrate the recognition of success and to appreciate the commitment to promoting decent work and acceptable working conditions on tanneries. SGS Bangladesh Limited has partnered with BTA and the Asia Foundation Bangladesh in March 2022 to conduct ISO 45001:2018 Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems (OHSMS) assessment in 14 tannery factories. After a year of hard work, they finally concluded the on-site activities on March29, 2023, by assessing all tanneries against the standard of ISO 45001:2018 (Occupational Health & Safety Management System). The goals of this assessment were to improve occupational health and safety standards, eliminate hazards and minimize OHS risks (including system deficiencies), take advantage of OHS opportunities, and address OHS management nonconformities associated with its activities.
BTA executive committee member Mr. Sadeak Babu, Head of Projects and program Mr. Rehana Akter Ruma, tannery owners and representative from fourteen tanneries, High officials from SGS and the Asia Foundation Bangladesh was present at the ceremony.
